There has been news from the USA today that ex Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose, will take up the role as lead vocalist for the remainder of the AC/DC US Tour.
This was not denied by AC/DC band representatives who said only that there was `nothing official to announce just yet’. This is despite Axl being seen rehearsing with the band.
The Aussie Rock band had to put their tour on hold last month due to lead singer Brian Johnson being told by doctors that he risked being totally deaf if he continued to perform.
At the time, the official AC/DC website, (www.ACDC.com) stated;
AC/DC are forced to reschedule the 10 upcoming dates on the U.S. leg of their “Rock or Bust” World Tour. AC/DC’s lead singer, Brian Johnson, has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss.
It went further to say that future shows would be rescheduled to later in the year ” … likely with a guest vocalist”.
Axl is currently also preparing a re-union with his Guns ‘N Roses band-mates with whom he has not played since 1993, for the Coachella Festival in California USA.
Other contenders for the lead singer guest role, included fellow Aussie of Scottish origin Jimmy Barnes who of course rose to fame with Cold Chisel before making a solo career.
Brian Johnson (also a Scotsman as was original lead singer Bon Scott), joined AC/DC in 1980 after Bon Scott died due to a night of heavy drinking in London.
ACDC have seen huge success with Johnson as frontman, who in fact has been with ACDC now longer than Bon Scott had, with the first album to feature Johnson, “Back in Black”, still one of the world’s top-selling albums ever.
