It will be an exciting fight this weekend in the GTM class of the GT Asia Series at the Okayama International Circuit.
Not only will it be the first time the Series heads to the former Formula 1 circuit, the GTM class will see three new entries for the 28-30 June weekend.
New Zealand driver, Michael Green, will be making a welcome debut at the beautiful 3.7km circuit. Driving in the Porsche 997 GT3 Cup for Direction Racing, the Japanese based driver is an experienced Porsche Carrera Cup Japan driver, having been in the Series for two years.
Another Japanese entry is Takeomi Mima who will be racing for Ninne Racing, also in a 997 Cup car. Mima first made his appearance in the GT Asia Series two years ago and has been expressing his interest to return since then.
Also making a comeback is Macau driver, Keith Vong who will be driving for Arrows Racing in the Porsche 997 Cup 3.8. Vong is an experienced GTM driver, having participated in numerous GT races around Asia and is a regular guest driver in the GT Asia Series.
The trio will have a hard battle to face with strong competition from a slew of experienced GT drivers in their class including the strong pairing of Tohjiro Azuma and Naoryu in the Ferrari 458 Challenge.
The duo currently leads the GTM class in points followed closely by a trio of Hong Kong drivers and best friends, Francis Tjia, Wayne Shen and his brother, John Shen in their individual Porsche 997 Cup 3.8’s.
Then come the strong pairing of Asai Akihiro and Billy Fung in the Audi R8 LMS, backed by the strong Japanese team, Hitotsuyama Racing.
Not too far behind them is reigning GTM Champion, Jacky Yeung, who had a difficult outing in Motegi and is sure to challenge for the lead in the class once again.
Canadian driver, Shim Ching will also be in the mix to make it an exciting outing at the Okayama Circuit.
