The
first V8 Supercar winner on the streets of the Gold
Coast, Glenfords Racing’s John Bowe will make his final
Indy V8 Supercar Challenge start this weekend.

When
the home-grown V8’s were added to the Indy program in
1994, Bowe took pole position and a pair of race wins in
an EB Falcon.

It
was part of a hugely successful year for the Tasmanian,
who also won the 1994 Bathurst 1000.

Bowe
took another two race wins at Indy in 1996, and has
remained a contender in the sun-soaked concrete jungle
over the years, ahead of his final V8 Supercar races at
the circuit this weekend.

By
contrast, the Glenfords Racing team will make the short
trek south from their Yatala (QLD) base to the Gold
Coast with a V8 Supercar for just the second time.

Now
in their second year of V8 Supercars with regular
mid-field finishes to their credit, the Glenfords team
is aiming for another season-topping performance at
their home event.

JOHN
BOWE:

“It’s
astonishing to think how much Indy has grown over the
years.

“Since
we first raced there in 1994 it has just kept getting
bigger and bigger.

“For
the first few years we raced there it was a
non-championship event, but since we started racing for
points in 2002 it’s obviously become a lot more
important for the V8 teams.

“Sandown
and Bathurst are probably the two toughest events we do,
so to finish both of those in the points, whereas a lot
of bigger and better-funded teams had problems, is a
testament to their efforts.

“I’ve
always enjoyed driving these cars around the Indy street
circuit. There’s absolutely no room for error; it’s a
tight and demanding street circuit with concrete walls
on either side just waiting for you to make a mistake.
