NOMINEES FOR 2016 APRA MUSIC AWARDS ANNOUNCED

FOUR NOMINATIONS EACH FOR JARRYD JAMES AND SIA

NEW AWARD CATEGORY ANNOUNCED

 

APRA AMCOS is pleased to announce the nominees for the 2016 APRA Music Awards, which will be held at Carriageworks in Sydney on Tuesday, 5 April.

Leading the nominations with four apiece are JARRYD JAMES (Song of the Year, Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year, Most Played Australian Work, Pop Work of the Year) for Do You Remember and SIA FURLER (Most Played Australian Work x 2, Pop Work of the Year x 2) for Elastic Heart and the Jessie J hit, Flashlight.

Songwriters with multiple nominations include AC/DC, BIRDS OF TOKYO, PHIL BARTON, COLIN BUCHANAN, HILLTOP HOODS, VANCE JOY, LEE KERNAGHAN, JOEL LITTLE, TKAY MAIDZA, GARTH PORTER and PEKING DUK.

In the celebrated Song of the Year category, APRA AMCOS members have chosen BIRDS OF TOKYO for Anchor; JARRYD JAMES and JOEL LITTLE for Do You Remember; Tame Impala’s KEVIN PARKER for Let It Happen; COURTNEY BARNETT for Pedestrian at Best and C.W. STONEKING for The Zombie.

To acknowledge significant achievements made by APRA AMCOS members based overseas, a new award category has been introduced this year, the Overseas Recognition Award. Open to all musical genres, the Award was created to recognise the success of members in markets outside of Australia. The five finalists in this category are PHIL BARTON, SAM DIXON KYLIE SACKLEY, JOSEF SALVAT and VASSY and were determined by the APRA AMCOS Board and a specialist advisory group.

Two more special awards, decided by the APRA AMCOS Board of Directors, will be presented at the ceremony – the Songwriter of the Year and the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services to Australian Music. The award for Most Played Australian Work Overseas will also be announced on the night. 

Returning to host the 2016 APRA Music Awards is writer, producer, comedian and RocKwiz co-creator, BRIAN NANKERVIS. Also back in 2016 is Musical Director, ROBERT CONLEY, who will curate the evening’s live performances.
