Mick Schumacher, who is the son of Formula One racing legend Michael Schumacher, has started his professional racing career in the best possible way; by winning the Italian Formula Four series on his debut race on Saturday 9th April, 2016!
At only 17 years old, Mick was already fast enough in qualifying to start in second position on the grid. Mick then went on to win in Misano beating Raul Guzman Marchina of Mexico and Manuel Correa Juan from USA.
“That was great; my race speed was simply fantastic,” Said Mick Schumacher wearing his Italian Prema Powerteam colours.
Mick Schumacher has a long road ahead of him and quite a daunting challenge if he is looking to follow in his fathers’ footsteps. Micheal Schumaker has a record of 7 F1GP world titles and an unbeaten 91 Grand Prix starts. He has attempted to retire a few times but the sport kept calling him back. It’s quite ironic that the final retirement came as a result of a skiing accident in France in December 2013 from which he sustained head injuries that placed him in a coma for many months. Fortunately Michael is continuing his recovery and is able to watch his son who is competing in the Italian and German F4 racing series, the German season being his second.
