A film based on the Gran Turismo driving simulator franchise is confirmed as being in the works.
Edmunds reports Sony Pictures Entertainment has confirmed a film based on the cult Sony PlayStation video game created by Kazunori Yamauchi and Polyphony Digital Inc., has been given the go-ahead.
A Gran Turismo movie will follow in the footsteps of DreamWorks Studios’ Need for Speed movie, due to be released in 2014, and Legendary Pictures’ Hot Wheels big screen adaptation planned to start filming next year.
With the Fast and Furious series of movies becoming Universal Studio’s biggest franchise, Sony will be keen to see PlayStation’s all-time biggest-selling title, which recently celebrated its 15th anniversary, encourage fans off their couches and into cinemas.
Featuring new tracks including the Silverstone Circuit and the Goodwood Festival of Speed’s famous 1.87km hillclimb, the latest iteration of the racing game, Gran Turismo 6, is due out this year.
While no specifics on film cars have been revealed for GT, Need for Speed will highlight several Fordvehicles as part of a partnership with DreamWorks, including using a modified 2014 Ford Mustang in the hero role.
Cool
I think this is a real great website.
GT6 is a great film. Wolverine is better though – in the midst of a mid-life crisis, he pays a visit to an old comrade in Japan and finds himself in the midst of a power struggle. Go watch the film.
Aewsome
