Sydney Alphones arena, 14/02/2013: The final piece of the 2013 V8 Supercar lineup is finally in place as Erebus Motorsports today revealed their Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG racers.

For most fans, it’s been a long 4 month wait for the Erebus cars to be revealed.

The Erebus’ racers will use a body adapted from the 2013 E 63 AMG sports sedan, along with a unique AMG engine and aerodynamics package that complies with the V8 Supercar regulations.

Without much room for variety in aero design, the Erebus racer uses a front air-dam design similar to the Ford racer, while the down force producing rear wing, is similar to the Holden racer’s side-mounted design.

As well as the reveal of the race car, Erebus also unveiled the three liveries for the team’s cars, and new driver Maro Engel’s first appearance alongside Lee Holdsworth and Tim Slade ( previously with Stone Brothers Racing).

The SP Tools livery is worn on Engel’s car,  previously with  Shane Van Gisbergen, while the Irwin Tools signage remains with Lee Holdsworth. New kid on the block HHA Heavy Haulage remains with Tim Slade.

Betty Klimenko, Erebus Motorsport owner,  congratulated the team’s for preparing the cars in such a short time, and made special mention of her pride that they managed to win the Bathurst 12 hour race with one of the team’s SLS AMG GT3 racers last weekend.

“It’s not often in life you get to touch your dream,” Klimenko said. “I love the challenge and I love the perfection of my cars, and of my crew.”

Ryan Maddison, Erebus Motorsport CEO, also commended the team’s efforts, and mentioned that this culminated in a marathon 109 day construction period.

“The only way that we were able to achieve what we have is because of the dedication which is found in AMG, Stone Brothers Racing and Erebus Motorsport; they are the true heroes of tonight,” Maddison said.

In order to qualify for the V8 supercars 5.0 litre engine capacity spec, the Erebus E 63 racers are fitted with a de-stroked 5.0 litre version of AMG’s 6.2 litre naturally aspirated V8. These unique V8 Supercar engines have been assembled for Erebus Motorsport in Germany through the AMG Customer Sports Program.

The Erebus Motorsport’s E 63s will pound the track with the rest of the lineup of Ford, Holden, and Nissan 2013 championship contenders for the first time at this weekend’s V8 Supercars Championship pre-season test day at Sydney Motorsport Park before making their debut at the opening round in Adelaide from March 1-3 .

  1. Hmm is anyone else more than a little skeptical as to the real motives of V8 Supercars ?? I’d say money is higher on the agenda than the quality Ford v Holden racing we’ve always known.

  2. Nice car. I’m sure it will kick ass once they get experience on the specific circuits and Australian tracks.
