Edgar Lau Completes Flawless Road to Le Mans Journey with P6 Finish

Edgar Lau has completed his flawless Road to Le Mans journey with a stunning P6 finish in Saturday’s second race. Lau drove his Norma M30 from P10 up an incredible five places, before handing over to teammate Jacques Wolff, who then took the #6 DKR Engineering entry to a fantastic P6 finish. This is another milestone for the Hong Kong driver who continues his climb up motorsport’s international ladder. Lau’s continued success has proven once again that he can mix it with the world’s best drivers and come away with a top finish.

Lau made a brilliant start from P10 in the #6 DKR Engineering Norma M30, instantly finding the pace among the best Prototype and GT3 drivers in the world by capturing P9 at turn two. In only the first lap of competition, Lau utilized the Norma M30’s superior speed down the Mulsanne Straight to snatch a further three positions as he got his race two challenge fully up to speed.

The Hong Kong driver was quickly closing in on P5, but a ‘slow zone’ enforced by the stewards forced the grid to slow and prevented any overtaking. On the restart, the Norma M30 struggled to initially find speed and lost two places to the Ligier’s behind it. Lau was unfazed and set about putting his head down to regain the lost positions. Thanks to his incredible pace and precise driving, Lau soon reclaimed 6th and 7th over the next couple of laps.

With the top five cars soon within reach, the #6 driver continued to push the limits of his LMP3 racer and completed a smooth overtaking maneuver to claim P5 half way through his stint. From here, Lau was infallible, driving a flawless stint to close in on his rivals and bring the car into the pits in perfect condition to hand over to teammate, Jacques Wolff, in P5.

His partner drove a great stint too, with Wolff fighting back from two lost positions during the pitstop shuffle to cross the finish line in P6, helping the pair to best some of the toughest international driver pairings and give Lau a flawless ending to his Road to Le Mans journey.

Quotes

Edgar Lau, #6 DKR Engineering Norma M30

“Race two went pretty well, I was very happy with the results. I started P10 overall, ninth in class. We got off to a quick start and quickly took a place at turn two. Thanks to a good car we were able to capitalize on the Mulsanne straight and gain a few places. It was a tough one to get around the Aston Martin who was high up in the order but we made it up to fifth place by the pit stop. A big hand to Jacques Wolff, who managed to consolidate our position even though we lost a little bit to some of the faster drivers in the second stint. We ended up P6, so very happy with the result. First time driving at Le Mans, second time driving an LMP3 car, so it has been a great learning process and I am looking forward to my next race!”

Kendy Jaclaes, DKR Engineering Team Principal

“The race was very good, better than we could imagine. It was the first time for this car on this track and it was perfect. Edgar made a great start and brought the car into the pits in a good position and then Jacques finished the race with very good pace. All the team is extremely happy for this weekend and I am very proud of what Edgar has achieved.”
